Even Low Cost Carriers Are Now Offering Status Matches

Frontier Airlines is offering Elite Gold status through December 31, 2026, to members of other airline loyalty programs. For a short time, travelers enrolled in any loyalty program with Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines, or Alaska Airlines can unlock Frontier Elite Gold status.

For $69, this limited-time offer provides nearly 18 months of Frontier’s Elite Gold benefits, including a free carry-on bag and priority boarding, among other perks. To claim this offer, eligible loyalty program members must visit frontier.getstatus.com by September 9, 2025, and submit their membership details along with the application fee.

Here Is What You Get With Frontier’s Elite Gold Status

Frontier Airlines Elite Gold status members enjoy priority customer care, a free carry-on bag, priority boarding, free preferred seat selection, complimentary upgrades to premium seating at check-in, and access to UpFront Plus seating up to four hours before departure. UpFront Plus guarantees an empty middle seat in the first two rows of the aircraft. In late 2025, Frontier will debut first class seating across its network.

With this status match offer, Frontier Airlines is looking to win over new loyal customers. Traditionally, status matches have been a strategy used by legacy carriers like United Airlines or American Airlines. In the past, low-cost airlines avoided loyalty programs and almost never offered status matches, since their business model relies heavily on ancillary fees such as baggage, seat selection, and upgrades.

But as more low-cost carriers introduce loyalty programs based on status tiers or subscription models, new opportunities have emerged to offer status matches with other airlines. Commenting on the limited-time offer, Jeff Werkheiser, senior director of brand and customer engagement, at Frontier Airlines, said:

“This is one of the most valuable offers we’ve ever extended to frequent flyers. We’re inviting members of many different airline loyalty programs to experience The New Frontier – where they can travel affordably without sacrificing comfort or premium perks.”

What Are The Terms And Conditions

To take advantage of this offer, travelers must first be members of Frontier Miles. Eligible participants also need to have an existing Rapid Rewards, TrueBlue, Free Spirit, or Mileage Plan membership, joined before August 19, 2025. It is worth noting that if you participated in the Southwest Rapid Rewards status match earlier this year, you are not eligible for this promotion.

According to Frontier, the Frontier Miles Elite Gold status offer is available for purchase for a limited time and may be modified or withdrawn at any point. All fees are subject to change at any time without notice, but will be displayed before payment is collected. Once an account is upgraded, the fee is nonrefundable, and any refund issued will immediately revoke Gold status and its associated benefits. Upgrades are typically processed within 24 to 48 hours.

Additionally, members must use the same email address in their Frontier Miles account when claiming this offer. Members who have previously completed a status match are eligible if they meet the criteria. Also, Elite Status benefits cannot replace ancillary services such as seat selection or baggage, which have already been paid for. Benefits only apply to items not yet purchased, and no refunds will be given for paid services.

Unique Nature Of Low-Cost Loyalty

Budget airlines across the world, and especially in the United States, are beginning to recognize the importance of frequent flyer programs and are starting to develop them, often adopting a subscription-based model.

The landscape of loyalty programs among US low-cost carriers is relatively robust, with almost every low-cost carrier in the country operating some sort of frequent flyer program. Notably, unlike European low-cost carriers, US budget carrier loyalty programs resemble those offered by full-service carriers (FSCs).

Most of the US low-cost carrier frequent flyer programs allow you to earn miles by flying with the airline and redeem them for free flights, bags, and seat selection. Like traditional full-service carriers, most of these budget airlines also have partnerships with credit cards to earn points. While similar in structure, loyalty programs from US low-cost carriers are notably simpler compared to those of full-service carriers. They typically lack additional airline partners and offer limited options for using miles. None of them belong to an airline alliance, such as oneworld, SkyTeam, or Star Alliance.
