A two-hour flight delay is a fair trade for big savings

I find it hard to understand why many people jump at cheap tickets to save money, only to complain when the flight is delayed.

I run a small business with a stable income. I often buy plane tickets for my own business trips family vacations and work trips for employees.

I usually choose low-cost airlines and accept delays. But I have never complained, cursed or caused trouble for airline staff.

Here is how I see it: the price difference between the most punctual airline and the budget carrier with the most delays is at least VND 1 million (US$40). During peak seasons the gap rises to VND 2-3 million ($80-120), and for urgent trips it can reach VND 5-6 million ($190-230).

By sticking with budget tickets and accepting the possibility of delays, I save at least VND 1 million per ticket. A delay of a few hours, even a full day, feels like I earned that amount while waiting at the airport. The more trips I make, the more I save.

So why complain? How many of you can make VND 1-2 million ($40-80) in a few hours? If your time is worth more, you can always pay extra for tickets from airlines with fewer delays and more punctual flights.

Many people buy cheap tickets yet complain when flights are delayed. But everything comes at a price.

For me, saving money matters more than avoiding delays. I always plan my time ahead to stay flexible. Passengers need to understand aviation rules to protect themselves, and travel insurance is another way to reduce risks.

With cheap tickets, I can add a meal and still pay less than full-service airlines on the same route, which often provide no meal or just a snack on short flights.

In the end, air travelers should weigh the pros and cons when choosing a flight that fits their budget. If you choose a budget option, you should also accept delays and subpar services.
