Candidate Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Age
From 18 to 32 years old
(The age limit for entry into Vietnam Airlines is 35 years old)
Educational Background
High school graduate (University or college entrance exam scores are not required)
Language Proficiency
Minimum TOEIC 550 / IELTS 5.0 or equivalent

STEP 1 | Application Submission& Entrance Exams
Applicants must prepare a complete application package and pass 3 rounds of entrance exams to officially become a trainee at Bay Viet.

Examination Process:

  • Round 1: English Test
    Listening & Reading skills test/Applicants are exempt from Round 1 if they already possess qualifying English certificates
  • Round 2: ADAPT / COMPASS Test
    Computer-based aptitude test to assess adaptability, aviation aptitude, and potential for a pilot career
  • Round 3: Interview
    In-person interview conducted by a panel in English

Exam Venue: Viet Flight Training School – Ho Chi Minh City

STEP 2 | PPLFlight Training
By obtaining the Private Pilot License (PPL), trainees gain the ability to independently operate a light single-engine aircraft.

Training Program: Includes 90 hours of theoretical training and 45 hours of flight training (*)

Degree/Certificate:

  • Private Pilot License – issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV)
  • ICAO Aviation English Certificate, minimum Level 4 – issued by CAAV

Training Duration: 04 months

Training Location: Viet Flight Training School – Rach Gia Campus

(*) Vietnam Airlines requires 60 PPL flight hours

STEP 3 | CPL & IR/METraining
With a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Instrument Rating on Multi-Engine aircraft (IR/ME), trainees are qualified to operate multi-engine aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and meet the requirements to become a commercial pilot.

Training Program: 140 flight training hours

Degree/Certificate:

  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
  • Multi-Engine / Instrument Rating (IR/ME)

Issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the respective country.

Training Duration: 06–12 months

Training Location: Bay Viet’s partner flight schools overseas (USA / Australia / Europe / South Africa)

STEP 4 | ATP Theory Training
The Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) theory course provides essential knowledge required for airline transport pilots and is a mandatory part of the basic pilot training program.

Training Program: 431 hours of theoretical instruction

Degree/Certificate: ATP theory certificate recognized by the CAAV

Training Duration: 5 months

Training Location: Bay Viet Pilot School – Ho Chi Minh City

STEP 5 | MCC/JET FAMTraining
The MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation) course trains students in multi-crew coordination skills.
The JET FAM (JET Familiarization Course) helps students become familiar with jet aircraft before transitioning to type-rating training.

Training Program: Includes 32-48 hours of simulator training.

Degree/Certificate: MCC and JET FAM certificates recognized by CAAV.

Training Duration: 1 month.

Training Location: Viet Flight Training School – Ho Chi Minh City.

STEP 6 | Training at Airlines
After completing the basic training phase with the required certifications, students will undergo recruitment by an airline and continue their advanced training at the airline, including:

After completing the basic pilot training program and obtaining the necessary certifications PPL, CPL, IR/ME, ATP, MCC, JET FAM, ICAO English level 4, students will proceed to the advanced training phase to meet the conditions for “official flight release” and become a First Officer.

Type Rating Training (*):

  • Program: Training on simulators for aircraft types such as A320/321, B737, etc.
  • Duration: Approximately 4 months
  • Location: Type rating training center or Airline (depending on the airline’s policy)

Training at the Base and Flight Hour Accumulation (Base & IOE training):

  • Program: Includes 150-200 flight hours on commercial aircraft such as A320/321, B737, etc.
  • Duration: Approximately 4 months
  • Location: Airline

Upon completing these courses, students will continue their advanced training phase to meet the conditions for “official flight release” and become a First Officer at the Airline.
